Real
name, James Marcus Smith: He
began as a Hollywood odd jobber
recording demos for Elvis and making
the occasional record. Recording as
"Jett Powers", listen to his very
Elvis style in "Go Girl Go" He was
discovered so to speak by TV
producer Jack Good. Jack good took
him to the UK for his TV
spectacular, "AROUND THE BEATLES" .
Proby
with his unusual pony tailed hair
for the time, had a hit with "HOLD
ME" and parodied Billy Eckstein's
style on "SOMEWHERE" and
"MARIA" both from West Side Story.
He
was set to become a big star in the
UK but through being unpredictable,
unreliable and after a storm of
controversy over splitting his
velvet pants on stage, never
regained his popularity.
Proby
did make an album with Led Zeppelin
in 1969 called "THREE WEEK HERO" and
later recorded with "FOCUS".
Proby's later music genre became
very much "Country Western".
